We are looking for an experienced Internal Communications Manager who excels in creative storytelling and has strong writing skills. This versatile role involves managing a variety of projects that are essential to the success of our business. In this position, you will oversee internal communications strategies and campaigns for different technical teams and business units (BUs), including but not limited to IT, Information Security, Engineering, and our internal initiatives. Additionally, you will provide support to executives in key business units such as Customer Experience & Trust, Enterprise, Marketplace, Payments, and Product Marketing.
You'll be a vital member of the internal communications team within the Brand and Communications team at Upwork, reporting directly to the Director of Internal Communications. Your Responsibilities:
Execute initiatives led by the Internal Communications team, including global campaigns, engaging employees through creative storytelling (written, visual, and live events), managing centralized employee and leader communication resources, supporting employee engagement initiatives, and managing our communication channels.
Provide strategic input on messaging and positioning, and influence stakeholders as needed to ensure communications provide context, clarity, and are aligned with our desired goals.
Identify and support projects that improve the strength of the entire Internal Communications team (identify shared editorial opportunities and find new ways to streamline similar work, recommend new AI tools, etc.).
Support our weekly company-wide meetings, our quarterly All Hands meetings, and our Annual Kickoff gathering, including managing content, coaching speakers in rehearsals, and developing presentations.
Actively manage content on behalf of your stakeholders on our company-wide intranet.
Regularly assess the effectiveness of Upwork's internal communications channels and share recommendations to create momentum and awareness, as well as to test the effectiveness of communications activities.

Responsibilities
In this role, you'll:
Be a subject matter expert in messaging fraud, spam, and abuse as well as threat actor behavior.

What you bring
Basic
Bachelor or Master's degree in Physics, Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science or related field
12+ years hands on experience in building data science applications and machine learning pipelines
Experience with Python both for research and software development purposes
Knowledge of common machine learning, deep learning and statistics frameworks and concepts including Large Language Models
Experience with large data sets, distributed computing and cloud computing platforms
Experience with relational databases (e.g., SQL)
Ability to break down technical concepts into simple terms to present to diverse, technical, and non-technical audiences
Experience in training and deploying machine learning models in production environments

Wage Transparency
Pay for this position is based on a number of factors including geographic location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
Based on applicable legislation, the below details pay ranges in the following locations:
California: $177,900.00 - $287,425.00 base salary
Washington, New Jersey and New York (including NYC metro area): $170,900.00 - $251,325.00 base salary
This role is also eligible for the following:
Bonus: Sales personnel are eligible for variable incentive pay dependent on their achievement of pre-established sales goals. Non-Sales roles are eligible for a company bonus plan, which is calculated as a percentage of eligible wages and dependent on company performance.
Stock: This role is eligible to receive Restricted Stock Units (RSUs).

Develop subject matter expertise on Customer Data Platforms (CDPs) and Segment's role within the customer data ecosystem.

Based in New York, New Jersey, Washington State, or the San Francisco Bay area, California: $124,500.00 - $155,600.00.

Required:
Proven track record in SMS/MMS/Voice (or other VAS) incident ownership at a Tier 1 carrier or service provider.
