Operating in remote areas, this role safely transports passengers in commercial vans along designated routes and scheduled timetables. Drivers serve as public-facing ambassadors of the Conservancy, delivering high-quality customer service while upholding safety standards. In addition to driving, the role includes light maintenance and custodial tasks at shuttle stops and in Conservancy vehicles. Positions are available for both full-time and part-time schedules, based on operational needs. LOCATION & SCHEDULE On-site role based in Avalon, on Catalina Island. Minimum Qualifications Education and Experience: Any combination of training and experience that would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required qualifications would be: Education: Equivalent to completion of the twelfth (12th) grade. Experience: Two (2) years (24) months experience within the last five (5) years in the safe operation of a transit, paratransit, recreation or school bus. The minimum age for employees in this classification is twenty-one (21) years. Licenses and Certifications: Possession a valid California School Bus Certificate or Commercial Class B Driver's License with Passenger Endorsement, Verification of Transit Training (VTT) Certificate, Air Brake endorsement, and current California Department of Motor Vehicle Medical Certificate, to be maintained throughout employment. Possession of, or ability to obtain within one (1) year, a CPR and First Aid certification to be maintained throughout employment. Additional Information PHYSICAL DEMANDS Must possess mobility to work in a predominantly vehicle driving/operation environment; to operate a motor vehicle and drive on highways, surface streets and city roads in light to heavy traffic conditions; strength, stamina, and mobility to perform medium to heavy physical work; vision to read printed materials and a computer screen; and hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the telephone or radio.
