Rivian Automotive is reimagining the way that we travel while saving the planet. By creating emission-free Travel Adventure Vehicles, Rivian is revolutionizing the adventure and outdoor industry, while making a lasting difference.
Rivian is going on its eleventh year working towards a more sustainable way to travel. Because Rivian never had created a typical car in mind, they never thought to act or look like a typical car company. This is a big reason why they have created such a unique product.
Those environmentalist values mixed with the thirst for adventure have led to a company that isn't afraid to dive off a cliff into the unknown. Everyone who works at Rivian is doing something really cool, pretty much creating the future. If that sounds like something that you think is for you, stick around.
Diving Into the Values at Rivian
A CEO and Founder That Was Made for This
When Rivian Founder RJ Scaringe was a kid, the two things he loved the most were cars and the outdoors. Scaringe has even been quoted saying, "Adventure is life." The company that he started shares similar loves for those things. When Scaringe noticed the effects that he and everyone else had on the natural world, he decided to dedicate his life to doing something about it.
Trucks and SUVs are the most used vehicles for adventure travel. They are also the types of cars that outdoor-loving people prefer, because of their off-road capabilities. Trucks and SUVs are also vehicles that produce the most pollution. By making electric versions of these cars, Rivian has offered a new and responsible option for those who love exploring nature.

The People Who Make Rivian Roll
Rivian is for people who can take something unexpected and run with it. Because Rivian is changing the landscape of the automotive industry, there are unexpected challenges that employees have to face. But the perfect Rivian employee is someone who sees one of those challenges and gets excited about finding a solution.
Employees don't work long hours because they have to. They do it because they believe in this vision. Those are the types of employees and people that create real change and the types of people that are at Rivian.
Rivian employees are individuals who live for the unknown and can find adventure anywhere, whether that unknown is in the natural world, in a workshop, in an office, on a computer or anywhere else. Adventurers and explorers are who Rivian is looking for.
The Culture of the Future
Creating a More Sustainable World For Generations to Come
There are few companies out there that can say that they are working day in and day out to create a better future while proving it. Because Rivian is one of these companies, it attracts and recruits people who live that value and believe wholeheartedly in the mission.
The culture is one of opportunity, inclusiveness, and innovation. Any company that stands for a more sustainable future is going to attract the outdoors people and lovers of nature, believers in a better natural world. Everyone who works here cares about the world we live in and understand that we aren't doing it any favors by being here. But they are the people that are taking some responsibility upon themselves and are happy to do so.
As a startup, you may get to experiment with something that you've never tried before. With the unexpected challenges come unexpected opportunities to learn something new. This can also give you a real sense of accomplishment, seeing your work directly applied to the cars.
Rivian Workspaces
Dynamic Environments for Dynamic People
Rivian has several locations across the world, where different projects are worked on. They have locations in Irvine, San Jose and Carson, CA, along with Plymouth, MI, Norman, IL, an office for advanced engineering in the United Kingdom and an office dedicated to technology and development in Vancouver.
The atmosphere in the places of work is fast-paced and often changing, because of the nature of the product, new and innovative. But everyone works as a team, to pitch in wherever they can because of the belief in the company and what it stands for.
The Benefit of Change
What've They Got To Lose?
Rivian offers a competitive health insurance plan as well as 401k plans and stock options. They offer paid vacations and PTO, along with bereavement and maternity leave. Rivian also has a tuition assistance program for its employees, to help with those hefty student loans. And the fully-stocked snack bars are always a plus.
Another benefit of the company is getting that feeling of doing something truly good. It's what the company is all about: saving the planet. Working for Rivian is a step towards making an actual difference. These cars are the future of automotive transportation and working on a project this revolutionary is enough benefit itself.
Some people get to sit around and think of how great it would be to feel like they were making a change in the world. Rivian employees get to live that daydream.
Interviewing with Rivian
Get Ready for the Ringer
The interview process with Rivian can range anywhere from one week to a month, depending on the position. The interviews consist of an original phone screening, followed by on-location meetings. There, interviewers will give you a tour of the facilities.
Because Rivian is a start-up, they have their own ways of doing things. The level of interviews that you might expect from a more corporate business, where you go through several levels with different types of managers and directors, doesn't really apply. It is more likely that you will have an initial interview over the phone and then speak directly with someone you will be working closely under.
After that, it is likely that Rivian would want to get you on-site for a full day of experiencing what they experience every day.
