Key Responsibilities
1. Remote Responsibilities

Drug Utilization Review (DUR): Conduct drug utilization reviews to assess appropriateness of prescribed medications, identify potential drug interactions, contraindications, and ensure the safety and efficacy of medication regimens.
Consultation and Recommendations: Provide remote consultation to pharmacy staff and healthcare providers regarding drug therapy management, and recommend therapeutic alternatives or adjustments as necessary.
Compliance and Quality Assurance: Monitor and ensure adherence to internal policies, industry standards, and regulatory requirements while verifying data and conducting DUR.
2. Onsite Responsibilities
Dispensing Medications: Accurately and efficiently dispense prescription medications to patients, ensuring correct dosage, instructions, and labeling in compliance with regulations.
Patient Counseling: Provide professional counseling to patients on medication use, side effects, interactions, and proper administration.
Prescription Review: Review prescriptions for accuracy, completeness, and appropriateness, working with the healthcare team to resolve any discrepancies or issues.
Pharmacy Operations: Assist with the day-to-day operations of the community pharmacy, including inventory management, medication storage, and maintaining a clean, organized work environment.
Collaboration: Work with the onsite pharmacy team, including technicians and other healthcare providers, to ensure efficient pharmacy operations and optimal patient care.
3. Staff Training and Development (Hybrid Role)
Train and mentor pharmacy staff (onsite and remote) on best practices, new technologies, and regulatory changes to maintain high standards of pharmacy practice.
Ensure continuous improvement in workflow efficiency and patient care standards, both onsite and remote.
4. Scheduling
The balance between remote and onsite work will be determined by the specific needs of the position and may vary based on operational requirements.
5. Regulatory Compliance and Reporting
Ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal pharmacy laws and regulations, both onsite and remotely.
Maintain accurate and timely documentation of activities, including drug utilization reviews, medication dispensing, and patient interactions.
6. Collaboration with Healthcare Providers
Communicate and collaborate with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to ensure that patients are receiving appropriate medications and care.
Address any clinical concerns raised by healthcare providers regarding medication therapy management.
Required Qualifications
Registered Pharmacist or Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) degree from an accredited pharmacy school.
Active pharmacy license in the state of Iowa with good standing.
Minimum of 2 years of experience in community pharmacy or similar setting.
Strong knowledge of pharmacology, drug interactions, and medication therapy management.
Experience with drug utilization review (DUR) processes.
Proficiency in pharmacy management software and other relevant tools.
Ability to work independently and remotely while ensuring team collaboration and communication.

Work Environment

Job Overview Medication Therapy Management Pharmacist to support the Endocrinology Service Line. The position will be hybrid, with a combination of onsite work at the Clinic and Surgery Center on the UofM Campus and remote work.
