The Network Architecture & Engineering work unit provides for analysis, design, implementation, maintenance, security, and optimization of OHSU local and wide area (LAN/WAN) wired and wireless networks, data center networks, and associated infrastructure. As detailed below, the individual positions within this work unit will be required to collaborate and assist staff in other technology work units.
The Wireless Systems Analyst/Engineer position requires extensive experience in designing and deploying Cisco wireless networks in a large-scale healthcare environment. This role manages a multi-controller infrastructure supporting 5,000+ access points across Oregon and Washington, covering approximately 10 million square feet. It ensures seamless connectivity, performance, and security while supporting OHSU's business operations and institutional missions.
Primary responsibilities include the design and deployment of Cisco enterprise wireless networks, including indoor, outdoor, and high-density environments. Experience with configuring, managing, and troubleshooting Cisco 9800 Series Wireless Controllers and associated access points is essential. The engineer will also optimize RF coverage, capacity planning, and performance tuning to ensure seamless connectivity and optimal network performance.
Requirements include the ability to leverage tools such as Cisco DNA Center, Cisco ISE, Ekahau, MetaGeek, and Wireshark to diagnose and resolve wireless connectivity, performance, interference, and authentication issues. You will implement proactive analysis to ensure optimal wireless network health and conduct periodic wireless assessments using spectrum analyzers to identify issues and fine-tune configurations for improved performance and reliability.
Preferred qualifications include experience designing wireless coverage for both new construction and existing deployments. Additionally, the candidate should have expertise in configuring, maintaining, and troubleshooting location-based tracking services such as Cisco CMX and DNA Spaces.
This position requires excellent communication skills to support cross-departmental planning and execution of wireless network upgrades with minimal downtime.
