introduction image

A front desk concierge works in a hotel, mainly functioning as a receptionist who greets guests on their arrival and checks them into their rooms. It is his/her or her job to provide guests with necessary information about the location of their rooms and other important venues, such as the restaurant or the pool.

You will give guests their keys, let them know about meal schedules, and answer any questions they might have. You will be there to answer phone calls from guests in their rooms, arrange wake-up calls, assist them in their requests, or resolve their complaints. You will be working rotating shifts covering nights as well.

Being friendly, polite, and professional is a must when working in this position. You might have an associate's degree in tourism, hospitality, or a related area, but having solid customer service skills and great communication is the most important here. You will be representing the hotel, spending most of your time in the lobby, so looking professional is key. If you play the part well, you can earn something around $31,000 on average per year while gaining valuable experience that you will be able to use later on in more advanced positions.
