Qualifications: Education/Certification: • Hold a bachelor's or graduate degree from an accredited university in a field related to early childhood intervention. For each of the following fields, transcripts of degree coursework must reflect successful completion of at least nine semester course credit hours relevant to early childhood intervention and three semester course credit hours that focus on early childhood development or early childhood special education. Related fields include: psychology; social work; counseling; special education; and sociology. Facilitates and participates in the development, review, and evaluation of the Individualized Family Service Plan (IFSP) which is based upon the child's developmental history, parent's input, and the results of all evaluations and assessments. 3. Monitors and reassesses the needs of the child and coordinates all services that are necessary to ensure that the IFSP is effectively implemented. 4. Provides and assists all eligible children and their families in gaining access to the rights and procedural safeguards under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act Part C and to all needed medical, social, educational, developmental, and other appropriate services at a frequency that meets family and program needs. 5. Approves financial resources to fund respite care services as deemed necessary and appropriate based on the assessment of the child and family needs. 6. Cooperates with local community agencies/individuals and is knowledgeable of resources available in order to secure needed services on behalf of the clients. Follows all ESC policies and procedures in committing financial resources when necessary. 7. Assesses the child's need to determine if technical assistance services are required. Accesses the services through the ESC in the areas of assistive technology, vision and hearing impaired, and other community agencies as needed. 8. Provides developmental direct one-on-one or consultative services that give families information, skills, and support to assist their child with the acquisition and mastery of functional skills designed to reduce the limitations resulting from developmental delays or disabilities and focuses on identification of developmental needs across all domains at a frequency that meets family needs and local program requirements within 28 days of IFSP. 9. Works cooperatively with the local education agencies (LEA), child-care centers, and other agencies to identify and document the appropriate steps in transition services to support each child and family to smoothly and effectively transition from ECI to LEA special education services or other community activities, places, or programs. 10. Participates in the required “Random Moment in Time Studies” which helps the program secure additional federal funds in order to serve clients. 11. Participates in public awareness and child find activities that promote quality referrals from appropriate referral sources. 12. Is responsible for submitting all required written documentation and forms according to established timelines that are related to the child, family, and financial records. 13. Maintains in-service training requirements for professional growth and development and other program records such as inventory of equipment and materials. 14. Checks and responds to emails and voice mails within 48 hours during regular workdays. 15. Maintains a functioning cell phone and is accessible through this phone as deemed appropriate by the director. A functioning cell phone means that it is charged, activated, messages checked, and mailbox emptied regularly. 16. Reports for work ready to perform responsibilities. 17. Performs duties that directly and/or indirectly impact student performance in Region 16. 18. Maintains a professional level of confidentiality regarding all ESC matters. 19. Position Qualifications Minimum Education: Graduate of an accredited School of Occupational Therapy and licensed in the State of California. Minimum Experience: Clinical experience in a pediatric therapy setting. Proficiency in conducting evaluations in pediatric clinic-based setting. Required skills include planning, administering, scoring and interpreting tests related to development in sensory processing, activities of daily living and fine motor coordination. Effective written and oral communication skills are also required throughout this process. Required Certification and/or Registration: Registration with the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT) Licensed by the California Board of Occupational Therapy (CBOT) Position Accountabilities • Administer pediatric occupational therapy to children in clinic settings, and occasionally on location in schools or homes. • Conduct in-depth evaluations which include both standardized testing and structured clinical observations, requiring at least one hour but occasionally two or more hours of testing time, followed by scoring and clinical interpretation. A parent conference and a detailed assessment report are also provided for each evaluation and must be completed within two weeks. • Determine areas of concern, identify goals, and develop treatment plans for clients. • Document results of client's evaluation, treatment, follow-up and discharge concisely and accurately. Complete reports to be turned in no later than 2 weeks after the child's appointment • Maintain a full patient load (approximately 7 hour long treatments per 8 hour day or the equivalent when working alternate schedules, and seeing at least 2 evaluations a week) while keeping up with timely documentation. • Create and maintain positive relationships with families and children who visit clinic. Demonstrate ability to communicate difficult information in a kind and appropriate manner. • Maintain thorough, up-to-date treatment notes on each client. • Develop appropriate home programs for clients when applicable, demonstrating developmental strategies for perceptual, motor and sensory improvement. • Provide direction, training, and assistance to interns and volunteers assigned to the occupational therapy program. • Demonstrate positive interaction with co-workers, clients, families, and third parties, treating all with respect and demonstrating responsiveness to their needs. • Demonstrate adaptability to new people, procedures, and situations. • Listen openly, and respond by applying suggestions made by directors. • Attend staff and in-service meetings. Take the opportunity to occasionally lead a portion of in-service training. • Exhibit knowledge of health and safety for the children and families, yourself, and others as outlined in Cal/OSHA standards. • Assist with development of programs, protocols, and documents • Research and advise on building OT spaces and make recommendations regarding toys and equipment. • Follow AOTA guidelines for ethical, high-quality job performance. • Arrive to work promptly and demonstrate good time management skills. • Identify own continuing education needs, and pursue continuing education courses. • Maintain a clean and safe working environment. • Perform related duties as assigned. This is performed in accordance with physician orders and plan of care under the direction and supervision of the Director of Clinical Services/Clinical Manager. Summary of Responsibilities Improves or minimizes residual physical disabilities of the patient. Returns the individual to optimum and productive living within the patient's capabilities. Periodically participates with all other home care personnel in patient care planning. Provides prescribed occupational therapy. Directs and supervises personnel as required. Takes initial history and makes initial evaluation. Performs all skilled procedures. Consults with physicians regarding change in treatment. Writes reports to physicians regarding patients' progress. Instructs patients/family members in home programs and fine motor movement exercises. An initial evaluation, including plan of care and goals, must be completed and submitted to the physician for approval. A reevaluation is written when expected duration of treatment is reached. A summary is written upon patient's discharge. Periodically presents an in-service to the Agency staff.
